"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -Mark Twain

My sea legs are getting tired.

Things that have changed since I last blogged:
-We’ve finished a quarter of our classes for the semester
-I realize I’m not actually immune from getting sunburned
-The Atlantic Ocean has gotten rough and walking in a straight line has become
        increasingly difficult
-We’ve lost an hour each night- making us 5 hours ahead and just one more hour away
        from Spain!

Things that haven’t changed since I last blogged:
     -The food

We have our first Global Studies test tomorrow (which just doesn’t seem right for a Saturday) after which a few of us have decided to reward ourselves with a decent dinner at the pool snack bar and a movie. Pizza, burgers and frozen yogurt will be a welcome break from potatoes, pasta and assorted weird meats. No word on the movie of choice at this point, but it probably won’t be Inception since we watched that the other night. (I’ll spare you the story of how I walked in and accidentally sat down with the wrong group of girls that I thought were my friends in the dark Union…)

We slowed down the past few days because we were ahead of schedule, but we’re now back on track to dock in the Straight of Gibraltar some time tomorrow.  Its just a quick trip during the day to refuel before entering the Mediterranean, but it will be nice to finally see land! The bill for filling the ship last summer was something like $500,000, but since they’ve already told us about an additional couple hundred dollar fee we’re all being charged I’m thinking it could be a good bit more. When’s the last time you spent that much at Get Go??  I’m hoping the waves calm down some before then because its really getting to all of us- its pretty safe to say Barcelona can’t come fast enough.

As for my Barcelona plans, they’re still a little up in the air.  Monday we dock in the morning and spend the day hiking to Montserrat.  I’m planning on just staying on the ship in port to save some money for later countries so that’s at least one less thing to plan. Tuesday I’m doing a tour of the FC Barcelona stadium that should be cool, and a lot of us on the ship have gotten tickets to a concert that night too.  Wednesday and Thursday will be spent seeing the sights like Parc Guell, La Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Casa Batilo…

Between the time changes and some unexpected weather I had yet another failed attempt at seeing a sunrise (standing in the rain from 4:45- 6:45 AM wasn’t the best way to spend the morning), so I’m hoping to get some extra sleep in before we land. I promise there will be more updates when things start to pick up so except some fun from Spain! Among our goals are not getting pick pocketed, staying up and out until 6 AM like the locals, and eating criadillas. Look it up.

  1. I am enjoying the updates on your journey. The stop at Gibraltar sounds fascinating - take pictures of the refueling (if it's anything to see:). Barcelona sounds exciting! I'm trying to keep up with the crossword puzzles...
