"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -Mark Twain

A Long Time Coming

I should probably first apologize to Georgie, as she's the one person who has been following this blog since last January but only now, one year and five months later, finally reading a post! To say its been a bit of a bumpy ride getting to this trip would rival saying spending last summer in Milford, Virginia wasn't quite what I meant by "going abroad" for the as understatement of the year.  Theres even a part of me that wonders if its still too early to be writing- not quite convinced that I'm ACTUALLY leaving two weeks from today. But I guess just like I still procrastinate, I still have zero patience and I'm just too excited.
I totally understand if you take a while to decide to follow my trip since I've been going then not going (and then going then not going) more times than I can count. But while this definitely isn't the way I planned things to go I believe it was all a part of the plan and can't imagine things working out any better. So many people from  Morning Star, Hebron, DG, CMU and most of all my family have played huge roles in bringing me to where I am today, and for that I can't be grateful enough. (Sidenote, Jess Hersh you better watch your back as the queen of over using parenthetical statements.)
Enough of me being sappy and/or guilting you all into continuing to read, you have a solid two weeks to make the decision. As for my schedule until the 15th? Just shopping for clothes to wear in 100+ degree weather (that are also appropriate for visiting temples/churches/insert other various religious establishments here), packing two months of stuff into a duffel bag and a backpack, figuring out some of what I want to see and do in 8 countries I've never been to, spending time with as many friends as I can and hopefully finding some time to go outside so I dont get third degree burns hanging by the pool between classes. Talk about #whitegirlproblems, right? Oh and eating like 6 meals a day. No big deal.
Ok so my life really isnt that hard, especially considering that once all this is done I'll be on my way to the Bahamas. Then Spain. Then Italy. Then Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco. Not too shabby for a girl with only two stamps in her passport, right? (And yes, this IS currently still my only real form of identification...) I'd say I'm most excited for Italy (Io vado in Italia e viaggio le Cinque Terre, Professoressa Vairo!) but between moroccan desert camel treks, volunteering in bulgarian orphanages, sleeping in turkish cave hotels and relaxing on greek island beaches I dont know how I can even begin to pick.
I'll keep you posted as we go and fill you in on what I see, where I go, and how many sketchy Moroccan men ask me to marry them (yeah, apparently its a lot like Ghana in that way...)

Two weeks and counting!! SO. EXCITED.

  3. So, you really better update this blog with all kinds of stories and pictures or there is a soon-to-be 3rd grader and a soon-to-be 6th grader who will be sorely disappointed! (No pressure...) Add to that the mother of those children will be anxiously awaiting to hear of your travels and would much rather hear of them in your voice than from your parents!
Love you!! Be safe and have fun!
